Cognizant GenC hiring process

Cognizant's GenC (Generation Cognizant) program is a major campus hiring channel. The process: online assessment (Aptitude + Communication + Technical) → technical interview → HR interview.

Online assessment sections

  • Quants: arithmetic, algebra, data interpretation.
  • Logical reasoning: coding-decoding, blood relations, syllogisms.
  • Verbal: reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary.
  • Automata fix: identify and fix bugs in given code snippets.
  • Communication assessment: listen to audio and answer questions.

Technical interview

Campus technical rounds are fundamentals-focused:

  • Programming: write code for simple problems (palindrome, factorial, array sum).
  • DBMS: write SQL queries, explain normalization.
  • OOP and data structures basics.
  • Explain your final year project in detail.
  • For lateral hires: deeper DSA and domain-specific questions.

HR round focus

  • Communication skills — clear, structured answers.
  • Willingness to work in client-facing roles.
  • Relocation and shift flexibility.
  • Long-term career goals in IT services.
